A Christmas Eve children’s service in the St Marien Kirche
<p> A full church on a cold snowy Christmas Eve afternoon with hundreds of people including many families with children. Outside the church the streets are quiet - it seems that the whole of Rostock is here. Recorder player busking in the Christmas Market
We recorded this at the Weihnachstmarkt on a cold day at the end of November. The recorder player was standing in the street with hardly any coins in a tin which she had placed in front of her. She was shivering with the cold, and this can be heard in her playing. In the background people can be heard walking around the market talking, and an accordionist can be heard in the distant. There is a dog close by making a barking/whining noise at times and birds can be heard flying past and cawing. Mutzen are small doughnut-like small balls which are sold at the Christmas market. The recording here is of a seller inside a food van preparing a surface for uncooked dough and then cutting the dough into small pieces to deep fry to make the Mutzen.
